Finished Goods Receipts

1. Overview & Purpose

What are Finished Goods Receipts?
Finished Goods Receipts records the intake of completed manufactured products from the factory floor into warehouse storage. Posting a receipt triggers INBOUND inventory movements, increments saleable stock, and capitalizes actual batch production costs into inventory valuation.
Menu Location:Production > Receipts

2. When to Use Finished Goods Receipts

Packaging Line Finished Goods Warehouse Intake

The automated packaging line finishes wrapping and boxing 980 loaves of bread, transferring finished pallets to the warehouse outbound staging racks.

Recommended Action:Create a Production Receipt referencing the active run, enter the physically counted finished units, and designate the target finished goods storage room.

Actual vs Standard Yield Variance Reconciliation (COGM Calculation)

A batch planned for 1.000 loaves yields 980 loaves due to oven heat variance, requiring accurate cost allocation of consumed raw materials across actual finished units.

Recommended Action:Input the exact 980 finished units; the ERP automatically divides total raw material issue costs across the actual yield to establish true Cost of Goods Manufactured (COGM).

Multi-Shift Staged Partial Batch Intake

A large manufacturing work order runs continuously across two shifts, producing 500 units in the morning and 500 units in the evening.

Recommended Action:Post separate Production Receipts at the end of each shift against the same parent run, bringing inventory into saleable stock incrementally.

Quality Control (QC) Sign-Off & Expiration Date Stamping

Perishable finished goods require mandatory lab quality check and expiration date calculation before being released to retail store distribution.

Recommended Action:Record QC verification results and confirm shelf-life expiration dates on the receipt record before posting the items into active saleable balance.

By-Product & Scrap Packaging Generation

Industrial processing produces saleable secondary by-products (e.g. toasted bread crumbs or bran) alongside primary loaf output.

Recommended Action:Record the secondary by-product line on the production receipt to credit secondary inventory at standard recovery valuation.

6. Actual Yield & Scrap Logging

1

Quality Control Sign-Off

QC supervisor verifies finished packaging, labeling, and expiry tags.

2

Close Production Run

When all receipts are posted, system completes the parent work order.

7. Posting & Reversal Rules

Saleable Stock Consumption Lock
Once finished goods have been picked, transferred, or sold via POS or B2B sales, the associated production receipt cannot be reversed. You must conduct an inventory adjustment recount instead.
1

Receipt Reversal Rules

If counted incorrectly, supervisor reverses receipt to deduct stock back out.

Reversals require supervisor authorization and create audit trail reversal entries.

8. Cross-Module Impact

Operational Best Practices
  • Always conduct random quality sample testing before posting finished goods intake.
  • Ensure target warehouse storage room matches the sales dispatch picking zone to avoid secondary transfers.
